Reader’s Question:

What is SR22 insurance in Missouri? My cousin told me he needs one. I’m just curious on what SR22 insurance is. Do I need this too?

Jaime

Columbia, MO

One of the most important things that you need to know Jaime is that not everyone is required to get SR22 insurance in Missouri.

So, what is a SR22 insurance in Missouri?

Let me first tell you what SR22 insurance is. SR22 insurance is simply a document or form of insurance. This is given and submitted by your auto insurance company to the Missouri Department of Revenue – Motor Vehicle & Drivers Licensing (MVDL) to have your license reinstated. Moreover, this SR22 insurance is a proof that you have an active and existing car insurance policy that meets the required car insurance in the state of Missouri.

Missouri SR22 Insurance

One of the popular reasons why a license is suspended is because of a drunk driving activity. Also, some other violations are, but not limited to: driving without car insurance, multiple traffic violations, and suspension because of unpaid traffic fines. Now, if you have committed one of those, then you are required to get SR22 insurance in Missouri.

Now, once your car insurance company filed the SR22 insurance, it is important to make sure that you keep and maintain your car insurance because if there’s a lapse on your auto insurance, you insurer will inform the Missouri Secretary of State. And your license will again be suspended.

For additional information about what is a SR22 insurance in Missouri is, you may wish to ask your auto insurance agent.

Reader’s Question:

How will I know if I am a high risk driver who needs SR22 in Independence, Missouri?

Terence

Independence, Missouri MO

How are you Terence?

To start with, high risk candidates are individuals who exhibit poor driving habits interlaced with risky behavior. These habits are most often displayed when operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated or in an unsafe manner when in Independence, Missouri jurisdiction. Speeding, reckless driving and accumulation of at fault accidents, multiple citations for various violations indicate a high-risk level of behavior in Missouri MO.

Missouri High Risk Driver Insurance

In addition to that, statistics have shown that individuals with poor credit ratings tend to report more claims as well as those who have difficulty financially maintaining continuous auto insurance coverage. Another factor would be education levels and environmental factors which apparently play a large part in defining high-risk individuals. Statistics show that residents of Independence, where the population is higher, tend to have more accidents than those who live in suburban or rural areas. Sex, age and gender also determine high-risk auto insurance needs in MO. Did you know that younger males exhibit riskier behavior while women have fewer risk factors when on the road? Ultimately, the insurers and the State of Missouri’s DMV determine an operator’s requirement for SR-22 high-risk auto insurance.

Ask for discounts, you never know what you might be able to get and how much you can save by asking. Some popular discounts can be given for:

1. Military personnel

2. Good grade students

3. Union membership and bank member affiliations

4. Safe drivers with no claims in last 7 years

5. Defensive driving school attendance

6. Clean credit history – used by many carriers to determine payment risk

Try to shop around for free quotes and get to compare rates since not all auto insurers in Independence, Missouri offer high risk auto insurance. You can actually start shopping using this page with no obligations.

Reader’s Question:

Is there an amount set that is charged for getting an SR22 auto insurance in Missouri for DUI or does it differ by insurance provider?

Mack

Columbia, MO

Typically, insurance carriers are allowed for a nominal fee charge for filing the SR22 to the state. State laws vary but typically the SR-22 form filing fee is only $15 to $25.

Missouri DUI Insurance Rates

State laws is Missouri which used to prohibit the use of any type of insurance policy fee, inspection fees, service charge, and fees for regulatory filings including SR-22 certificate fees. This law was rescinded though in 2003 and now Missouri Code of Regulations (CSR) only requires that premiums and fees charged for SR-22s shall be reasonable.

MO law states that any insurance carrier providing coverage to a policyholder under a certified policy may file, on behalf of him/herself and the individual covered, any such form as the situation requires. To know about the amount an insurance provider can charge policyholders to file the SR22 form contact your MO insurance regulator.

Reader question:

Hi, so what do I need to get a Missouri SR22 auto insurance policy?

Jake

Thanks for asking, Jake.

I’ll give you a couple of hints by telling you what Missouri SR22 insurance law tells you that you have to pack up one. Missouri has no fault auto insurance laws, which means that you’re going to need a greater amount of required insurance than you would in most states. Here you go.

Liability.

Liability basically comes in injury and property liability, and this insurance will pay for the harm done to the personal property of the other person involved in the accident if you are the at fault one; as for injury, well, figure it out. You need a $50,000 for injury, which is split down the middle per person, and a $10,000 for property.

Missouri SR22 Insurance Quotes

Personal injury protection.

This covers injuries for you when you get into a car accident. Not only does it cover your injuries, but it will also cover your death costs, any rehabilitation, lost wages, and so on.

Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage.

This makes it easier on you if you get into an accident with someone who fits one of the above categories. You need $25,000 of both of these coverages.

Cheers,
